The North West Business Alliance is driven by local leaders who understand our region. This month, we sat down with Mike Sweeney to learn about his business journey and his passion for the North West. Mike is the current Treasurer on the NWBA Board.

In two sentences, what do you do and what inspired you to start?

We are a business advisory firm specialising in accounting and taxation consulting to small and medium businesses, Aboriginal corporations, and not-for-profits. We were inspired to start the firm as we identified that a market exists for an accountant who responds to queries in a timely manner and focuses on streamlining processes.

What motivated you to join the Board and support the North West business community?

My family is rooted in the western suburbs and most of my connections through my kids' school and sport come from the area. The Port and peninsula provide a great location and untapped potential for business growth, and I was keen to support these efforts and see the local business community flourish.

What is one thing you think makes the North West region the best place to do business?

Access to the airport, freight centres, the harbour, and the city provide a great hub from which business can spread. With quality resources and an able workforce, the region is a great place to launch a business which services local, national, and international customers.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve overcome in your business journey so far?

Rapid growth meant the need to identify and hire staff a lot earlier in our timeline than originally anticipated. Luckily, we were able to find staff with great attitudes and the perfect skill set to match our client needs.

Are you more productive at a 7:30 am breakfast meeting or a 6:00 pm networking evening?

Definitely early bird.
